hey hey, looks like i’m not the only one to have grips over vBulletin… 😉
sadly, there is not enough guys interested for a real solution for webmasters…. everybody comment and whine, but nobody have the guts to start over with something new…
i’ve said it often, i’d be more than happy to start a new project for a complete solution for webmasters *(who are the real clients for a company like this)… but money is the essence of a successful project.
for the moment, i stick with vBulletin 3.8 as it has cool potential for the next months… but let me tell that i would have better things to do with a real project.
yea, i may stick with 3.8 series too.I had renewed by license and then they mentioned about price increase.I’m not to clear how that work.But I’m a license owner and just paid for the renewal why should i pay again for the new version..To me it’s all cosmetic.I’ll stick with my datsun 210 ..lol :grin_Grin:

actually, the raise in prices and all the other things discussed in the “leak” were not proven… and btw, that leak was leaked by “TECK”… and since then, Floren (teck) just made trouble on vb.com, and he was banned yesterday due to all these troubles and drama… which are basically bullshit because he is the only one to cry that loud about everything…
anyway… i’m not against 4.0 yet, i did not see the code. i’m just against what i’ve seen lately, as the company is unable to deal with P.R., and they are unable to provide real infos on the code and sources… the templating engine is crap if they switch to what we see in the screenshots… but hey, i’m not to comment every detail until i have the code in hands.

I’m not a coder.But when i see codes like that, it’s more of a proprietary script then a general script,which they have the right to do anything with there software.But i see why they had to start off by scratch.
actually, what you see is Smarty code… which was now used by the Indian coder IB hired to rebuild the template engine… money was the point i think, because going with Smarty is not smart when you want to make a point…

Can’t really say I agree with the main features listed in the blog..
I’ve used Drupal, both as a CMS and a forum. Even though the Drupal admincp looks all blue and shiny I definitely prefer the vBulletin one having things more organized.
About the forums, they simply can’t be compared. Less code, probably. Better coded, I don’t know, I have to admit.
People simply can’t compare a Ferrari Enzo with a Toyota Startlet, just because they both have four wheels..
i’ve read the replies to this post on vb.ocm, vb.org and the original place, and everywhere *(let’s say even on other sites which are always whinning about vb) the only thing we see is the client’s opinion… rare are the coders to give an opinion on the code itself… strange, because it’s the coder’s opinion that is missing right now…
i asked some of these coders to know why they were not giving their opinion… majority of the answers were “lost”… coders don’t know what to think, they get used to code for vB, and then they were asked if something can be changed… 90% of them know nothing about what to change, because they are used to the code…
some guys were there to provide new solutions, but they are just code enhancements, no structural change, no new protocol, just debugs… that worth nothing to me…
i wish i had a bunch of guys starting a new project… the kind of guys who know more than just vB, like i do, with the background i have… (Postnuke, wordpress, phpbb, ipb, whm, drupal, and others)… it’s easier to compare when you know how they work. would be amazing to see a development team to beat the competition…:)

hum, he compared a successful Open source project with a proprietary one… being Open Source, vBulletin would be completely different, with more enhancements, not just a tasklist…
btw, vBulletin is more and more a CMS, as 4.0 will be… 🙂
the guy is actually not a brilliant software critics, so i do not care about his opinion btw…
