This product will be updated in the near future, to be more flexible… here are the guidelines, which are similar to the existing ones but more structured:

    Quote:
    features:

    Posting Introduction Tread on Registration
How the introduction thread is understood is that the new user have to enter one if he/she wants to make a first post right now to introduce himself. You can also tell the system to generate a default thread if the mebmer is not filling one.
1- Prompt user to enter their own introduction message
2- If user do not enter a message, automatically post the default one
3- Automatically create a new thread, no user interaction

    Poster of Automatically Create Introduction
if you enter a userid in this field, it have to be related to an existing member (maybe the bot, or an admin) and it will replace the name and userid of the user who is registering its introduction message. Leave empty if you want the user’s infos for the new thread.

    ForumID for Introduction Thread
Without that ID, the system is deactivated. You have to point the system to one specific forum where all introduction threads will be posted. A link will apprear in the description of the introduction field, with the description of that forum, so it will help the visitors to see where they are posting.

Usergroup ID for users who are not filling the form
If you want to move your users that are not filling their introduction to a specific usergroup, you just have to select it here. This setting will be applied when the system detect no user-based introduction thread. Leave empty if you want the user to be left as by default.

it’s an old one… actually 3 years old, just updated for 3.7, and i’ll code a newer version for 3.8 soon.

it may even be incompatible, i did not even look at it yet… rofl

  4. puertoblack2003 dit :

cool yea i was about to say its not working correctly. Not creating the welcome thread.I’ll wait. :grin_Tongue:

  5. nexia dit :

hum, i’ll look at it this evening… i think it’s a question of posting permission that was added since 3.7… 🙂

I think this is a great idea. It might get people over that ‘first post hurdle’!

I noticed this the other day. The mod says this

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the « %1$s ». %3$s If you decide to not post your introduction, the system will send an automatic welcome message to the forum. You will then have to reply to that thread of yours if you want to be able to participate elsewhere in the forum and around.

And it’s a hyper link. It takes them to this page http://abcd.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=%2$s. If a user doesnt want to create a thread it wont allow them to register.

yeah, i noticed it too, and i am correcting this right now, as the product is a bit obsolete, have to be reworked from 3.6 to 3.8 … so i’m fixing that glitch too…

    Thanks Nexia.

ok, as the week-end at the camping was productive in ideas, i had this one about the product… i’ll recode it a little to make it more performant.

first, new « Users Awaiting Email Confirmation » or are « Moderate New Members », the new thread will be put in moderation… once they are verified, the thread is approved automatically.

also, a function inside that product already push registered users to a specific usergroup when they do not post an introduction thread… i’ll add a switch to make them « Moderated », so the admin in charge will have to verify that user as well, making it more efficient to filter bots etc.

  11. omegared dit :

will it still work if I manually move the « Users Awaiting Email Confirmation » to registered members? I have a lot of people that are lazy and don’t realize they have to go check there email.

  12. nexia dit :

    sure, it’s done on usergroup change… 🙂

Has this one been looked into?

  17. xrisos dit :

Also another problem if you click No and register then you get this error:

    Fatal error:

    * The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vB_DataManager_Thread_FirstPost in /home/x/public_html/includes/class_dm.php on line 810

  18. nexia dit :

yeap, i see why… the form and the function are not corrected from the old version. i will put this modification in stand-by for the time being, so when i can code again i finish it…

  19. xrisos dit :

ok thanks, i would try to fix it myself and post the fix but i dont have much time for the next few weeks. For the meanwhile i may try and disable it so they have to post a welcome thread.

    cheers
